The Song We Sing

I will often select a song on my media player and repeat it over and over again, sometimes for a great length of time.  I do this to get to the truth that is contained in the song, and also find what I don’t hear right away that I need to soak up.  Kind of the same premise for scripture reading and memorization. So this morning I am  listening to a song,”Forever Reign” by Hillsong, and I have discovered some real truth for my life.

As is usually the case, some is blatantly obvious, but hidden in the words are deeper revelations.  The chorus for this song was what first caught my attention.  It says:

Oh I’m running to Your arms
I’m running to Your arms
The riches of Your love
Will always be enough
Nothing compares to Your embrace
Light of the world forever reign

I needed to hear those words – to know that the riches of Gods love will always be enough.  I was drawn closer to Jesus in worship as I sang from a heart that has abandoned my own sufficiency, while running into His arms!  Over and over I rehearsed that thinking, letting it get into every part of my being.  As I continued to listen, the bridge of the song afforded another insight for our lives as worshipers of Christ:

My heart will sing
No other Name

As I repeated the words, I began to think of all the “songs” I have sung to other things in my life. Many unworthy choices had left me starving for truth and thirsty for His love. I learned that my heart can only sing to my Savior and be satisfied.

The question is, “What are you singing to today?” Our lives reveal the things that we worship, and our song shows where the passion of our lives reside.  Let us sing to God alone,  adoring our one and only great love, Jesus!
