We Are Warriors

I am a big fan of The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings Trilogies. I will tell you why. They are the sagas of good fighting evil relentlessly in spite of odds that are nearly, if not completely impossible. Time and time again teetering on the brink of annihilation only to somehow stay alive and ultimately be victorious. In battle after epic battle, through countless onslaughts by various evil creatures that are only stopped when they are destroyed, they may waver, but never turn back. Countless heroic deeds are not the exception, no, they are the norm. The causes of good triumphs, those that remain memorialize the fallen, and somehow, though changed forever, go on and live their lives in peace.

Sound familiar? It should, because it is every one of us. We have all the drama, dangers, and unknowns that the most fabled tales include. We are the heroes and heroines and the war continues unabated in this current age.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places.
Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)

Our wars are fought more often in the spiritual, but are analogous with the great battles written of so long ago. We face no less a determined enemy than any righteous cause has ever stared down, and we cannot afford to give up any of our valuable territory. You see, the ground we stand upon has been bought with the blood of the saints who have gone before us. Thousands of years have passed and yet our enemy hasn’t relented in his quest to stop the spread of the hope found in Jesus Christ.

We are this generations warriors, and it is imperative that we see the importance that each of us holds in repelling the enemy’s attack.

Today we battle spiritual forces that corrupt and deceive. You can see this everywhere to be sure, but I would rather look inward before pointing the finger at anyone else. I would ask of myself, “What sort of warrior am I, am I fully equipped and outfitted in the whole armor of God, and am I allowing anything in my life that prevents me from being a fierce and formidable soldier? That requires a piercing and honest assessment of our lives that we aren’t always willing to confront. What is your Achilles heel, and at what point are you thwarted in the battles you personally face?

We must prayerfully seek the truth from God that we may not be willing or able see.

I have fallen many times with mortal wounds that I was powerless to stop because I was outsmarted by a cunning foe. I was lazy, unlearned, weak, and lacking the heart to give my all, I merely acquiesced to defeat. But no more.

Armed with the most powerful weapons at anyone’s disposal, and wielding them from a pure heart, we are no longer the fodder of our opponent.

Let us give no more ground to an enemy who has already taken so much. Let us fight together, side by side, and send this evil to its doom. We are warriors of the Lord of Hosts and He will never be defeated!
