I have wasted many years; wishing and dreaming, hoping and scheming, but not achieving.
A few weeks ago, Susan shared one of the daily devotions from “My utmost For His Highest” by Oswald Chambers with me. She does that from time to time, especially when it is particularly relevant to us. I wish I could remember the scripture and the majority of what he said, but alas, I am getting a little to old for that. I only have so much room up in the brain pan ya know:)
Here’s the point, and I have seen it made more than once since then.
We are so stuck on some certain perfect destination or reality out there somewhere, that we don’t realize it is already being fulfilled in us, right NOW!
We are being “perfected” day by day; in the waiting. The obstacles, frustrations, the sin, the correction, the taking of wrong turns and the molding and shaping that is taking place all the way. Nothing is wasted in this life, I can tell you right now that your destination is very much in focus in the eyes of God.
Don’t discount the present for something off somewhere in the far-flung future. Today is a big part of what your tomorrow holds. The patience, peace, joy, and rest we are learning are some of the most valuable commodities we can posses in this life. It is in the so-called “waiting” that the most irreplaceable tools are acquired for what our future truly holds.
Psalm 62:5 (KJV)
My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
