Grid Girls…GONE!

This week the F1 series of auto racing announced the following:

“While the practice of employing grid girls has been a staple of Formula 1 Grands Prix for decades, we feel this custom does not resonate with our brand values and clearly is at odds with modern-day societal norms. We don’t believe the practice is appropriate or relevant to Formula 1 and its fans, old and new, across the world.”

In case you are unaware of them, grid girls are the scantily-clad women who decorate the track and pits at the races, and have for decades.

I applaud those who made this decision, it is way overdue and might possibly lead to other sports taking note and following suit.

Look, what many people refuse to acknowledge is that pornography, sex-trafficking, abuse, rape, along with other actions begin somewhere. Lust starts with that visual and grows and expands from there. Not everyone takes this to the extreme, but are not the countless affairs and destroyed marriages partially caused by every distraction from monogamy, including the likes of grid girls?

There is an argument (among many) that pleads the case that many women dress even more provocatively in the stands at these events. Undeniable. But in a climate of sexual assault that is so heightened these days changes are mandatory.

Another is that sexy cars have always gone with sexy women, seriously?

Objectification is so much a part of our culture that these women think what they do is merely representing the F1 series as ambassadors of the sport. Yes, they may do some positive things, but this whole thing has an undercurrent of nothing more than sex, and in most cases don’t ask men to make the decision to police themselves…thats like asking the fox to guard the henhouse!

In recent news are the New Orleans strippers being cracked down on by law enforcement due to related sex trafficking concerns. The strippers themselves claim they are not being used but making choices of their own, with their own bodies. I even heard a commentator on public radio say that sex trafficking isn’t a punishable crime, but some sort of sickness? OMG!!! This world has gone crazy!

Wake up people! If you cannot see that its the so-called little things that are the start of big trouble, you are ignorant of basic human nature.

Are you going to listen to objectified women insist they are professionals and lustful social media comments which say its tradition and must be protected?

Think about it…
